NEVER…

  1. Go to Bed Without Washing Your Face!

By not cleansing well before bedtime, you sleep with dust, dirt, and pollutants on your face. This guarantees that you wake to dull, sluggish skin! Not cleansing before bed also prevents all your amazing potions and lotions from doing their magic while you sleep. I'm sure you can remember the last time you got an incredible night’s sleep and spent the time your skin deserves on your PM ritual. You wake up looking and feeling refreshed! The only time our skin truly heals is while we meditate, get LED Light therapy, and enjoy a good night’s sleep.

  1. Skip Sunscreen!

Skipping sunscreen is a huge no! This lazy habit can lead to red, blotchy, and burned skin, not to mention cancer cells from developing. With regular and daily use of a non-toxic, reef-safe, zinc-based sunscreen, you can prevent uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation as well as certain skin cancers. I love Epicuren's defend and balance tinted spf 50.

  1. Pick at Your Face!

This is a BIG no-no!! And I know that for many of us picking becomes a nervous tick or unconscious habit when we feel or see a pesky bump or zit. Picking at your skin can spread bacteria and instantly cause more pimples to accumulate and surface. Picking can also create lasting scars and discoloration that can take months, even years, to heal!

Be Calm Vit C, Be Nourished Moisturizer, Green Tea Soap, Magic Matcha Masque, Be Divine Toner

  1. Leave Your Make-Up on at Night!

Again, not cleansing your face at night before going to bed can cause you a lot of grief when you see your face in the mirror the next morning. Especially if you've left makeup on it. Think raccoon eyes!!  I always recommend a double cleanse every night, esp. if you are wearing sunscreen or makeup. The first cleanse is just about getting off surface dirt or makeup, while the second cleanse frees up your pores and prevents bacteria from spreading. Removing your makeup can be fun and easy with something like my Be Clean Detoxifying Elixir Oil or Jane Iredale's Facial Beauty Prep, which is a coconut water infused with calming cucumber extracts.

With a thorough PM cleaning ritual, your skin will stay smooth, clear, and bright —always allowing your products to truly penetrate and heal any damage from the day, while you sleep!

  1. Eat Too Many Processed Foods!

We've all heard the saying "You are what you eat!" And this is something to always keep in the back of your mind. Regular junk food binging or simply having processed food as part of your normal diet means you are not getting the nutrients you need to achieve healthy skin. You also take the chance of knocking your gut health off balance, which can lead to IBS, constipation, and other uncomfortable issues. Most processed foods are filled with nitrates, sugars, MSG, and other stabilizers that can lead to Alzheimer's, diabetes, obesity, and much more.

The health of our gut is directly connected to the health of our skin! To help curb your junk food cravings, find herbal teas that you like and sip on those throughout the day. Always having a mason jar ready to grab in your fridge is a simple way to get some extra skin nutrients as well as not turn to that cursed bag of Doritos.

  1. Smoke or Vape!

We all know smoking causes lung cancer and an array of respiratory issues. But think what it does to our skin!!! Yikes! How are people still smoking!? And now all the vaping! This addiction is taking over our world and our young generations. We must educate and guide them on the dangers of vaping, as it can be worse than smoking.

With any kind of smoking, we instantly become dehydrated, looking dull and depleted. Over time, the texture of our skin becomes uneven and rough. I even notice there are more broken blood vessels, often broken capillaries that can be red and/or blue with regular or long-time smokers.

  1. Not Get Enough Sleep!

We should all be getting approximately 8 hours of sleep each night. I know some are good with five hours and others better with 10. That being said, it is more important to follow a regular sleeping regimen each night. This means going to bed at the same time and waking up at the same time each morning. This allows you to get to your deep, restful (skin-repairing) sleep that you need every night with ease. And honestly, practice makes perfect. So if you're not getting your proper beauty rest, take a nap. Even a 20-minute cat nap can make a world of difference in your mental state, allowing your face to radiate a healthier glow.

  1. Skip Masques and Serums!

One of the easiest ways I have personally preserved the health and well-being of my skin is through my weekly masking rituals. When I launched my skincare line over 12 years ago, I created a miracle mask, Just Add Sugar, that I cannot live without!! I encourage everyone to apply it 1x/week for 20 minutes for flawless, balanced skin. It is your mini facial in a jar.

If you are not a masque person, it's time to become one!

To take the health and well-being of your skin to the next level, always apply a serum in the morning under your moisturizer and sunscreen. It’s an absolute must! This will ensure added protection from pollution and toxins that you may come across throughout the day. I recommend one of my *Potions, which are 75% probiotic to truly protect and keep your skin cells alive all day! And for your PM ritual, always apply one to two serums under your heavy moisturizer. This will give you the best results while you sleep. My favorite go to serum is my Be Calm Brightening C Serum which repairs all sun and environmental damage while you sleep. Your skin will always stay smooth, bright, and balanced.

  1. Skimp On Moisturizer!

Ok, so this is a no brainer. Whenever you work out and sweat, you drink more water, correct? So every time you wash your face, you must moisturize! The more you sweat or do anything that could deplete your hydration levels, you make a point to drink more water. So just think about this when you are drinking alcohol or caffeine, flying at high altitudes, or spending time in the desert — you would always up your hydration, internally and topically!

I love carrying around my Be Divine Toner everywhere I go, as it instantly calms, cools and hydrates my skin cells, keeping my healthy glow.

  1. Not Drink Enough Water!

Ouch! This is the worst for ANYONE. When we don’t take in enough water, we not only look depleted and tired, but we feel it!!

I cannot stress this enough for flawless, radiant skin —we must have proper hydration levels for our overall health and skin's well-being.

Here’s a simple guideline to follow: Drink half your body weight in ounces every day! If you drink caffeine, alcohol, are sweating a lot, or in a high elevation situation, drink more water!
