Dying to know how to go about using topicals like retinol? And what the magic is behind Jenette’s formulator-led products that are as luxuriously effective as they are deeply healing? Dive into part 2 of our chat with our founder as we discuss what it truly means to be an all-natural skincare brand, why sustainability efforts are so critical, and what she can’t miss out on to feel her very best every day! As always, it’s about going far beyond skin-deep!
What does it mean to be an all-natural skincare brand?
This is not an easy question, as many would think that as long as you’re using what the FDA would call one 100-percent natural, you’re an all-natural skincare line. However, I think it goes much further. It’s about sourcing and using sustainable, clean, and green ingredients every step of the way.
We pride ourselves in the integrity and authenticity of every ingredient that we grow, extract and put into our glass vats to store and marinate — usually for weeks — before even pouring. That’s the magic behind all of this.
We have an extremely methodical thought process and approach. We not only take these clean, 99-percent organic, conscious ingredients from their original, sustainable soil but also marinate them with my other creations in the lab.
As a formulator-led brand, you create all of your products in-house. Can you talk about your quality standards and what sets your formulas apart?
The use of cold-pressed oils and precious absolute essential oils are what truly sets my formulas apart — along with my Chinese and Korean herbal proprietary blend. It consists of herbs, probiotics, ginger, and cucumber. As far as the cold-pressed oils that have not been tampered with, they create a very soothing, calming, and anti-aging way of healing the skin for true cell repair.
What also sets my formulas apart is the fact that I can rely on my 50-plus clients and friends and family (who have been with me on this journey for over ten years) to test and try these products and give extremely detailed and honest feedback. We do not officially launch a product until it has been tried and tested on at least 50 to 100 people who we trust and who can give honest feedback.
How long does it take to see significant results with your products, whether it’s breakouts or aging?
When people use my line, at least four products, they see significant results within 2-4 weeks. And, of course, that is if you are taking good care of yourself, eating well, drinking water, and not overloading on sugar, caffeine, or fried foods.
For instance, if you have severe acne or are breaking out, you want to get off your topicals, such as retinol or Retin-A and your acid. Instead, use our 4 Piece Acne Kit along with a zinc sunscreen of 10-20 percent. If you’re dealing with aging, I still probably want you to get off your topicals — just to give Jenette Skin Care a real chance to see what it’s capable of doing. Then you would go on the 5 Piece Anti-Aging Kit, which contains everything you need for a.m. and p.m. Afterward, you could reintegrate your topicals every other night, depending on the season. Or if you are living in sunny places like California or Florida, maybe you would only add your retinol or Retin-A once a week during the summer months.
Can you talk about your incredible sustainability efforts?
My skincare is an offering to the world. My alchemy has healed the skin of thousands of people. I find inspiration in leaders with integrity, such as the Dalai Lama, who remind us that we are all interconnected. We're all affected by global warming, single-use plastics, and the destruction of our oceans.
So we have to be extreme in our sustainability efforts. We need to realize that we have choices as consumers and need to be responsible human beings who can save this beautiful planet.
As a brand we are taking the difficulty out of some of this. We have done the homework and research on how to live sustainably — as an individual, as a family, as a company, and as a brand. We try to be the best that we can be to stop this crisis and work towards having clean air, clean soil, and clean oceans.
What are your short- and long-term goals as a brand?
Definitely to come up with incredible new products such as my new face and body oil. Starring sandalwood, it is an anti-aging, soothing serum that acts as a great moisturizer for those seeking something lighter. We will also re-launch Be Nourished with a new and improved formula that makes it even more magical and healing... stay tuned for this new and improved formula in April of 2022.
Also, I’d love to grow our team, get in talented new life and new support, and grow our brand while staying completely authentic. I’d love to have more refillable stations for our toners and oils; get them for everything! These bottles last a really long time. I'd like to get on a sustainable beauty alliance board, donate time to teach people, and do more videos to educate consumers.
Any parting words — or advice on something that would surprise us to know about you?
My day is not complete, and I’m not at my best, without doing my morning meditation and some stretching. Also, doing my gratitude practice has shifted my psyche and my life! It’s now a part of me. I just do it. I’m grateful for my hands and my sense of smell. And, I want to encourage people to love themselves and their bodies.
