Q&A with Our Founder Part 1: Our Very Own Skincare Guru Shares Her Deep Knowledge on Achieving — and Keeping — Truly Fantastic, Glowing, Radiant Skin!

I sat down with our founder, Jenette Serrins, to discuss her skincare routine, must-have products, and daily beauty regimen. Learn about her secrets to getting great skin, her inspiration for new products, and her unique take on aging gracefully. It’s about making a wholehearted commitment to the health of your body, skin, and mind — inside and out! Let’s get up close and personal!

How did you start on your skincare journey?

When I was 18, I opened a day spa with my mom and learned how to do everything, from body treatments to makeup, massage, skincare, and waxing. I didn’t think that this was a path I would stay on. But while getting my degree in speech communication, I needed to make money, and this was a great way.

Then I was introduced to Ayurveda and became obsessed with the Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. Ayurveda really excited and enticed me to dig deeper into what I was eating and using. And then, I became an ingredient guru, testing and researching like a mad scientist, learning about the positive and negative effects these ingredients could have on us. Our skin is a sponge and can absorb anything and everything that we put on it. I guess this is where it all started!

What inspired you to create Jenette All Natural Skin Care?

In my 20+ years in the beauty industry, I’ve always been trying to provide incredible treatments and take-home products that deliver results but are also clean. I always found that many results-oriented products had a lot of toxic ingredients in them and that more natural lines were not results-driven. Therefore, Jenette Skin Care was born.

My goal always is to keep our skin cells alive! When our cells are being killed off by stress, inflammation, heat, using toxic products — or eating bad foods, and drinking a lot of caffeine and alcohol — it takes a toll. I personally don’t want to live a life where I can never have a coffee, my glass of Pinot Noir, or a shot of tequila once in a while. I want to help counterbalance these stressors with probiotics, cold-pressed oils, medical-grade vitamin C, and other incredible proprietary blends.

Where do you find inspiration for new products?

My travels are a huge inspiration. I love going to new places and countries, walking into botanical gardens, and learning about new plants, herbs, flowers, and trees that possibly have exciting benefits. We constantly discover new things that nature provides to heal us. I love exploring all of that, and this usually happens when I have downtime traveling.

I also love to research everything and everyone. I enjoy looking into trustworthy medical and science journals to find scientific backing for the benefits of essential oils, plants, or herbs, which help our immune system and skin.

Which are your personal hero products?

I cannot live without my Green Tea – Superfood Facial Bar, my Just Add Sugar — Cacao Herbal Infusion Masque, and my Magic Matcha — Green Tea Superfood Masque. They are serious game-changers. Also, Transform — Niacin Serum is incredibly nutrient-rich and does a little bit of everything. Especially during this time of the pandemic when we have to wear a mask. Transform helps to protect from that heat and inflammation trapped by wearing a dirty, dusty mask all day.

The other go-to product I have been using for 9 years is my Potion No.2 — Age Defying Serum. I will not leave the house without it. It keeps my skin very balanced. Lastly, I cannot live without my Be Divine — Age Defying Toner. That rose geranium and cucumber extract with the organic rosehip seed oil…yum! I love misting that all day long. It helps shift my energy every time I feel down or sad or need an energy shift.

How do you define great skin?

For me, great, healthy, radiant, glowing skin starts from within. Great skin has small pores. Great skin doesn’t have deep wrinkles. It’s skin that keeps its glow all day long. If my immune system is strong, my spirits are good, and I’m not having too much stress my skin will really show that. So, taking impeccable care of myself is first and foremost; as is getting all of my nutrients internally. Drinking my mushroom herbs every day, my aloe vera, my chlorophyll, and my probiotics...

Then, of course, exercise! Getting blood flow every day for at least 20 minutes, drinking a ton of water. I cannot stress that enough! Of course, it’s important to use good, clean, healthy skincare products that are feeding your cells. The key is finding the right program for you.

How do you stay looking so young?

I really believe in taking care of myself and going above and beyond every day. I believe drinking water is huge; half your body weight in ounces every single day. I also load up on vitamins, minerals, herbs, and probiotics every day. I try to eat really clean, organic whenever possible, and I avoid sugar and gluten at all costs.

I believe in moving my body. I try to hike, stretch or do yoga every single day, even if it’s just 20 minutes. Sometimes, if I can’t leave the house, I get on my trampoline for 10-20 minutes. Moving my body is very important. I think all of that helps.

Of course, I have been passionate about skincare and cleansing, toning, and hydrating my face since I was 15 years old. I cleanse my face every single night! I exfoliate once or twice a week with some kind of scrub. Of course, I love my Be Renewed — Limited Edition Black Sand Scrub. I can use that 2 or 3 times a week because it is healing, repairing, and gently detoxifying.

And I’m obsessed with layering. Every night, I put on 2 to 3 serums under my Be Nourished — Age-Defying Moisturizer. During the day I’m always toning my face, even if it’s just a quick mist with my Be Clean — Detoxifying Toner. Another thing that does help keep my stress levels down, along with daily meditation. I highly recommend the Insight Timer, an app that you can download for free.

Can skin age gracefully?

Yes, absolutely. I know the craze is all of these injections and insane lasers. I think we always need to do our due diligence before doing any of this. If you can find a holistic or medical aesthetician that you trust, this is huge, because they can help guide you on a really good path to aging gracefully.

But It does start from taking care of yourself and your insides. You absolutely have to be on a good skin care program. Wash your face every night, layer up, and find the right products that work for you that are clean and non-toxic. If we are feeding our skin cells every day and getting all of the nutrients we need, I think we can keep that healthy glow and age gracefully. You just have to do the work and you have to commit. It’s a lot of discipline.

Which skincare and beauty trends speak to you? Which do you think are misguided?

What speaks to me is living a life of balance, trying to be as stress-free as possible, and practicing mindfulness and movement. This is by far the best and healthiest way to live and achieve healthy skin.

I think social media has really done a number on us, especially females. Trying to live up to model-like standards. We need to know that much of what we’re seeing isn’t real. A lot of it is Photoshopped. It’s people being injected with certain solutions into their face and body to make them look a certain way — something that isn’t natural. I think we are misguided when we try to follow these people that aren’t true representations of what it means to be a healthy human being.
